THERMOPLASTICS:
MULTI-PURPOSE MATERIALS
The
term “thermoplastics” suggests a range of
varied products, in terms of structure,
aspect and functionality. It means the so-called
“flexible” category of plastic floor coverings
ORIGIN OF
THE PROBLEMS
Thermoplastics are generally capillary,
permeable to stains. They are very sensitive
to mechanical abrasion and subject to clogging.
Multi-layer vinyl has, in certain cases,
a thin wearing layer of some tenths of millimetres.

EXISTING
SOLUTIONS
1° - Preventive treatment.
All thermoplastics, with very few exceptions,
must be treated preventatively by applying
an “emulsion”, “metallisation” or a “wax”.
All these synonymous terms refer to the
same methodology and the same chemical,
that of self-shining polymers, which are
generally acrylic in the aqueous phase.
By polymerising, this chemical hardens and
creates a protective film. Applied in thin
layers, the emulsion forms a laminate whose
thickness and resistance varies depending
on the number of layers.
2° - Maintenance. Once
the protection has been applied, it must
be maintained so that work needs to take
place as infrequently as possible on the
thermoplastic itself.
NOTE: For reasons of ease, sometimes it
is preferable to completely scour off the
initial protection (old emulsion) and apply
a new protection.
BASIC
SYSTEM SPECIALITIES
1° - Preventative treatment
BASIC SYSTEM ® has developed
emulsions and procedures providing excellent
surface protection, in a gloss or satin
finish.
2° - Emulsion maintenance .
BASIC SYSTEM® has developed
products and procedures such as: partial
stripping, re-coating, polymer refilling,
neutral and self-shining detergents and
polish.
